I watched this video today that really struck me. I understood what he was saying in it for a while now, but I don't think the urgency fully registered in me until now. I'm only 18 years old, but even I know that time is precious. Yeah, sure, I still have 61 years of expected life left, but who's to say that those years won't go by in an instant? Who's to say that those years, feeling like an eternity now, wouldn't go by in a flash? Sure, these years feel longer because I don't have much to compare them to, but that's all an illusion, a trick of the mind.
Maybe the way I'm framing it is strange, but I think anyone who's reading this knows what I'm trying to say. We don't know when we'll die. I could die tomorrow, or a year from now, or two years, ten years, forty years, sixty years, any time!... So why am I risking it? Well, it's easier to risk it all for small easy things like video games, right? Video games are easy ways to get dopamine into your brain, and you can connect with others with them. However, I beg to question, is it worth it? Is your happiness in the future worth less than a video game today? Is my future that cheap? No. I don't believe anyone's is that cheap, especially if we lock in.
I won't fully understand what it feels like to be old and realizing how much time I wasted when I was young until I get to that age and possibly experience it, but I hope that, when I get there, I don't experience that feeling. I hope that, when I get there, I'll be living a life I love. At the end of the day, I feel like that's everyone's goal.
I also learned something else today too: life is like a probability scale. Success is like rolling for a jackpot. Sure, that one dude might roll the legendary treasure off the bat with a common chest and get the 1% chance, but 99% of other people are going to get commons to rares probably. Does that mean it's impossible though? NO! You know why? Because unlike a slot machine, you can INCREASE YOUR CHANCES A LOT. What needs to be focused on is learning skills, upgrading your character, earning that money so you can get those rare or legendary chests to make that 1% a 90%, getting those legendaries nearly EVERY SINGLE TIME. Get the common chest out of here! If I can go after a legendary chest with higher probability, then why the hell am I wasting time on the common chest? That's how success is, bro. It's a gamble, yes, but life is always a gamble. But unlike slot machines, you can increase your chances. Want to be successful on YouTube? Keep making videos until that ONE VIDEO gives you success. Want to be a successful welder, artist, lawyer, whatever? Keep learning the skills, keep grinding in school, keep working on yourself and that skill until you can make that 100k a year job that you want, or that 1 million dollar commission that you want, a 90% likely chance that you get it instead of a 1% chance. Work hard, get better, INCREASE YOUR CHANCES.
Why am I saying this in this blog post?
Mainly for documentation purposes, but also so that, if someone else is reading this, they can be able to at least get some benefit out of it. I'm saying this both for myself and others, basically.
